2020 | Fire 火 | Unique 1/1
Once upon a time I made six large drawings representing flame deities. The drawings were just sitting in the dark of a folder. I came to the idea to compress these drawings in a book. A book is easier to see, hold and store.
I decided to slice the original drawing in four parts. On one side of the pages I left an extra strip of paper to serve as a hinge for the fold and hold for the binding.
From the “waste” parts, cut from the original drawings, I made the facings for the cover. Strokes of paper were cut in squares and glued in a pattern on the cover cartons of the back and front. Finally all the pages were gathered and sewn together to form the book.
“Fire 火” is a work to see how a two dimensional drawing would look in the third dimension of a book and I was interested how by recycling and by the cut down compression an "old" work could be transformed into an small abstract artist book that still had the essence of the original drawings.
